Bestival A3 crash: Benefit night to take place in Liverpool

A benefit night in Liverpool for those injured when a coach that was returning from an Isle of Wight music festival crashed in Surrey has been announced.

Three people died and 50 were injured when the vehicle hit a tree on the A3 at Hindhead on 10 September while en route back to Merseyside from Bestival.

The benefit night at Liverpool club Nation will take place on 30 March.

Bestival organiser Rob Da Bank said it would "hopefully raise lots of money for those affected".

Driver Colin Daulby, 63, from Merseyside, Michael Molloy, 18, from Woolton, south Liverpool, and Kerry Lynne Ogden, 23, of Maghull, Liverpool, died when the 52-seater Merseypride Travel coach crashed between the Hindhead Tunnel and Thursley exit.

'Show some love'

A spokeswoman for Bestival said the crash had left one passenger, 21-year-old Zach Washington-Young, with "life-changing injuries and many others involved were also affected".

"We knew that we had to do everything we could to show that they are in our hearts and minds," she said.

She added that the event had been arranged after "extensive consultation with those affected and as a tribute to everyone involved".

Radio 1 DJ Rob da Bank, who organises the annual festival with his wife, said everyone involved with the event had been "devastated by what happened".

He said the Bestival team had been "working to get an event set up to show some love and hopefully raise lots of money for those affected and their families".

He added that he was "pleased it's in the home town of many of those involved".

The Bestival spokeswoman said the event would see the DJ joined by performers The Cuban Brothers and "some of Liverpool's finest".
