East Midlands Airport passenger numbers rise

Jet2 expanded its operation at East Midlands Airport helping to fill the gap left by BMI Baby
East Midlands Airport saw a 10% increase in passengers numbers in June, compared with last year.
Despite the recent heatwave, the airport has seen more people travelling just a year after BMI Baby pulled out.
The gap left by the budget airline was filled by the arrival of Monarch Airlines while Ryanair, Jet2 and Flybe have all expanded.
The airport estimates about 2.9m people will fly away over the summer, an increase of 8% on last year.
Monarch recently recruited an extra 24 staff, half of whom had lost their jobs when BMI Baby stopped operating.
