Six police officers who attended a nightclub brawl have been interviewed under criminal caution about their conduct, it has been revealed.

A student and two door staff were arrested outside Elements in Bedford after the fight last month.

The officers were "served with notices advising them their conduct is subject to investigation," the Independent Police Complaints Commission said.

The student, a 19-year-old man, remains in hospital with a serious neck injury.

Bedfordshire Police has bailed the two door staff members until July.

The incident occurred on Mill Street between 01:00 and 02:00 BST on 6 May.

IPCC investigators said they had spoken to a number of the student's friends who were with him that morning and are in the course of interviewing a number of the club's customers and staff who were also at Elements that night.

Accounts are also being obtained from a number of other police officers and CCTV footage is being analysed.

IPCC commissioner Mary Cunneen said: "We are grateful for a good response from the public to our witness appeal, but we believe it is possible some mobile phone footage was taken of the incident outside Elements nightclub and we would urge anyone with such material to come forward."
