Bracknell ring road makes way for new town centre

A ring road around a Berkshire town centre undergoing major redevelopment will close for the last time on Monday.

The Ring, circling Bracknell's shopping district, will be shut between High Street and Easthampstead House car park as part of £5m of road works.

Part of Bond Way and the northern section of the ring road will be closed to create a gateway to the new town centre with a large public space.

The rest of the road will remain open but traffic flows will change.

The Broadway and Crossway have already been demolished to make way for new shops, restaurants and a cinema.

An outdoor market and new bus station are also planned.

Helen Barnett, of Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, said: "The highways work is a crucial part of preparing before we start construction of the regenerated town centre.

"We anticipate that the works will be concluded in the autumn and that construction will commence shortly afterwards."

Bracknell Forest councillor Marc Brunel-Walker said: "We know that these road works will permanently change how motorists access and exit the town centre. So, there will be prominent signage and detailed maps available to help people find their way around."

The council said all businesses, offices and The Grange Hotel would remain open as usual throughout the highways work.
