Conservative Party conference security measures in city centre

Part of a Birmingham convention centre will be closed and road access in the area changed as security measures for the Conservative party conference.

The mall in the ICC, where the 13,500 delegates will meet, will be closed until the conference ends on Wednesday.

There will also be some changes to road access in the area, West Midlands Police said.

The security measures have been planned to cause "as little disruption as possible", the city council said.

The area around the conference centre, including Centenary Square, the Hyatt Regency Hotel and the section of Broad Street between Canal Street and Paradise Forum will see some changes to access for traffic, police said.

A spokesman said motorists should allow extra time for their journey if they are travelling into the city centre.

Police said they are expecting around 1,000 people to take part in a TUC march and rally on Sunday, starting at 11:00 BST.

Marketing Birmingham said the city was still "open for business" despite added security measures around the conference.
