Joshua Ribera: Football match in memory of murdered rapper

A football tournament has been held in memory of Joshua Ribera, an 18-year-old rapper who was murdered last year.

Teams made up of members of his family and friends took part in the competition at Birmingham City's St Andrew's stadium.

The teenager, who performed under the rap name "Depzman", was stabbed in the heart near TC's nightclub in Selly Oak in September.

Armani Mitchell, 18, was jailed for life in March for his murder.

Mr Ribera's mother Alison Cope, said she wanted to set up a charity in his name and hoped to turn the tournament into a regular event.

"He was very much about living his life and having fun and we want to do more positive activities for young people.

"We want to show them there's more to life than hanging around on the streets causing trouble and doing negative things."

A photo of Mr Ribera was shown on the big screen at St Andrew's and teams from his former schools, Springfield House School and Hunters Hill Technology College, both in Bromsgrove, took part in the tournament.

John Burn, a teacher at Hunters Hill, said: "He was a very talented young man and a positive influence on many of our younger students.

"The whole school was affected by what happened to him, he was part of our school family so we had to bring a team to support the event today."
