Teenager Connor Smith was 'shot dead' in Birmingham

A teenager killed in Birmingham died from a gunshot wound to the abdomen, a post-mortem examination has revealed.

Connor Smith, 19, was shot in Forde Way Gardens, Hawkesley, at about 21:30 BST on Thursday and was in cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived. He died a short time later.

West Midlands Police have said it was "a targeted attack" and have opened a murder investigation.

Mr Smith was a student from the Hawkesley area.

Det Insp Warren Hines said: "We are continuing today to make enquiries to locate the person or persons responsible for Connor's death.

"It is horrific that such a young man has lost his life and I would urge anyone who has information about Connor's death or who is responsible to do the right thing and come forward and speak to me as soon as possible."
