People gathered at the scene to lay tributes
A man and two teenage girls died when their car crashed into a tree.
Driver Joshua Parkes, 21, and rear seat passenger Lucy Tibbetts, 16, were killed in the smash in Kingswinford, Dudley, on Tuesday.
The family of a third victim, also 16, have asked that her name not be released, West Midlands Police said.
An 18-year-old man who was injured in the crash remains in a critical condition, while a 16-year-old girl is stable in hospital, the force said.
The force said officers had seen the car - a yellow Skoda Fabia - moments before but it had not been pursued or the occupants spoken to.

PC Chris Ridge said the "shocking" loss of young lives was a "devastating time" for the families involved.
"We're still working through a number of lines of investigation as we try to understand what happened and why," he said.
He urged anyone who saw the Skoda or captured dashcam footage of it driving in the area before the crash at 20:50 BST to contact the force.
"Anyone who saw the Skoda driving in the area last night, or who may have captured anything on dash-cam footage, is urged to get in touch with us as soon as possible."
