Report proposes 20mph Bristol speed limit

A new report has recommended a 20mph speed limit be introduced throughout Bristol.

The research said the limit would be the best way to make the city's roads less dangerous as well as encouraging more people to walk and cycle.

The city council, NHS Bristol and the University of the West of England all took part in the research.

A pilot 20mph zone is already underway in some of the city's residential streets.

The research, by the Knowledge Transfer Partnership, looked at ways of reducing road danger, to make pedestrians and cyclists less vulnerable to harm, especially from motor vehicles.

Councillor Jon Rogers, executive member for transport and sustainability, has previously said that if the pilot scheme in Bedminster, Southville and Windmill Hill was a success other areas of the city could follow.
