Keep or ditch the mayor? Bristol choice explained

On 5 May, the people of Bristol will be asked to vote on whether the city should continue to have an elected mayor.

Residents are being asked if they want to change the way Bristol City Council is run.

For the past decade this has been via a directly elected mayor but some want a return to the so-called "committee system," in which decisions are made by groups of local councillors.
