Voters reject elected mayors at referendums

The people of Liverpool have elected their first mayor, but three other cities have so far rejected government's proposals to replace the leader of the council with a directly elected mayor.

Bradford, Nottingham, Manchester and Coventry have all voted "no" in mayoral referendums. The results from other cities will be announced later today, along with the result of the mayoral election in London.
