A man has been jailed for burgling the home of an 86-year-old Cambridgeshire woman who was found murdered there in January.

Dainius Stelmokas, 29, of De Havilland Road, Wisbech, broke in to Una Crown's home in Wisbech on 4 April.

He stole a television, stereo and DVD player from the house, which although no longer an active crime scene was boarded up and had police tape on it.

Stelmokas was jailed for 10 months, at Cambridge Crown Court.

'Boarded up'

Det Con Becky Mainwood, of Cambridgeshire Police, said: "The property had been due to be released back to Mrs Crown's family a few days after the burglary actually took place.

"It was clearly boarded up for a reason and that would have been quite obvious.

"Whether he knew the owner had been murdered is unclear. However, his actions have caused the family further pain at a time when they were already grieving."

All of the stolen property was recovered.

Mrs Crown's burnt and stabbed body was discovered at her home on 13 January.

She had not been seen alive since Friday 11 January, but had spoken to a friend by telephone at about 17:00 GMT on the Saturday.

A 58-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, and is on bail until 2 July.

The charity Crimestoppers has offered a £10,000 reward for information which leads to the conviction of her killer.
