Fistral beach lifeguard patrols extended until November

Winter lifeguard patrols on a Cornish beach have been extended by a month.

The RNLI has announced that lifeguards will patrol Fistral beach in Newquay until the end of November, a month longer than previously.

The team of lifeguards will patrol the beach each Saturday and Sunday during November between 1000 GMT and 1600 GMT.

It has also been agreed that the Fistral lifeguards will start the official lifeguard season in 2011 in March - a month earlier than usual.

Paul Benney, RNLI Lifeguard Manager for Newquay, said: "Although the weather is getting colder and nights drawing in, wetsuits are getting better all the time and with a good quality winter suit, the most dedicated are able to get in the water right through the winter."
