More than £10m is to be spent repairing potholes on Cumbria's roads after one of the "most severe" winters in recent years.

Cumbria County Council's gritters were called out 108 times over the winter to deal with freezing roads, the largest number of call outs since 2005-6.

Now the council is spending £10.5m repairing potholes as the gritting season comes to an end.

A council spokesman said the repairs were wise after a "challenging" winter.
