Maryport's Wave Centre to be renamed as part of refurbishment

People in a west Cumbrian town have been asked for their views on two regeneration projects.
Residents can vote for a new name for Maryport's Wave Centre, which will be refurbished as part of efforts to revitalise the area.
Opinions are also wanted on signage and a new emblem depicting the town.
Cumberland Council said voting was open until 2 January and could be done online, external, at the centre, Maryport Town Hall or Maryport Library.
Schoolchildren across the town have helped create a list of potential names. These are:
Maryport Adventure Centre
Maryport Activity Centre
Maryport Adventure Hub
The White Star Centre
Broadside
As part of the refurbishment, a new play centre and studio spaces are to be installed alongside changes to the climbing attractions and gym.
Plans to include a new swimming pool were dropped earlier this year with the council blaming "spiralling costs".
The authority said there were three options for the colour of new signs across the town, some of which will include maps and an illustration by local artist Alan Roper.
Designs for the emblem include references to Maryport's lighthouse, the former Christ Church and the town's maritime heritage.
Members of the Maryport Regeneration Team will be available to talk about the schemes at the Town Hall, on Senhouse Street, on Tuesday between 10:00-16:00 GMT and from 14:00-19:00 on Wednesday.
Cumberland Council leader Mark Fryer said: "We have had a lot of feedback from people who say Wave is a misleading name for the building, so I am very pleased young people from the area have come up with a great list of new suggestions."
A total of £12m is being spent on regeneration projects in the town including turning the ex-Carlton Cinema into a cultural hub and moving the Maritime Museum into the former Christ Church building.
