Drivers and pedestrians are being warned to take care as temperatures remain low in Derbyshire.

Although only a small amount of snow is forecast, conditions are expected to stay below freezing in most areas.

Highways authorities said they had enough grit for main routes but untreated roads were expected to remain difficult.

More than 230 schools were closed on Friday with trains and buses running amended timetables.

Sgt Sally Blaiklock, from the Clay Cross area Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "The area is passable but our advice would be to avoid driving on the roads, especially rural ones, unless absolutely necessary."

Temperatures overnight on Thursday in the county dropped as low as -14C (6.8F) but are not expected to get so low over the weekend.

Bus companies Trent Barton and Arriva said diversions had been in place due to icy conditions on some routes.

Belper and Matlock areas have been particularly affected, a spokesperson for Trent Barton said.

The A57 Snake Pass is still closed in both directions between the Hurst Road junction in Glossop and the A6013.

And in High Peak, the A6024 Holme Moss Road is shut in both directions from Woodhead Reservoir.

The Victorian Christmas Market and light switch-on in Matlock have been postponed due to the adverse weather.
