Derbyshire's Y-Not toasts best toilets at UK Festival Awards

The organiser of a music festival in Derbyshire has said spending much of the budget on the toilets has paid off after it received an award for them.

The Y-Not Festival took the prize for best grass roots event and best toilets at the UK Festival Awards.

Ralph Broadbent said his team did all they could to provide good toilet facilities, which were subjected to round-the-clock cleaning.

He added that spending lots of money on them was a "long-term investment".

The Y-Not Festival takes place in the Peak District during the summer.

'Keep it intimate'

It has been going for six years and has a crowd capacity of 5,000.

Mr Broadbent said the two awards has given it more credibility within the festival industry.

However, he added he is "cautious" about how he will move the festival on.

"Our priority is to keep the festival intimate," he said.

"Equally, we might get bigger acts."

Musical talent from nearby Derby and Nottingham get the opportunity to play Y-Not along with headline bands like Maximo Park and Feeder.
