A £4.5m nurse training facility is being officially opened in Derby by England's chief nurse.

The School of Health Sciences teaches 350 students from nearby University of Nottingham.

The centre, which includes virtual learning hubs and a four-bed teaching suite, will be opened by Chief Nursing Officer Jane Cummings.

The centre also offers courses to 250 healthcare professionals from two Derby NHS trusts.

Patrick Callaghan of the School of Health Sciences at The University of Nottingham, which sends students to the centre, said the opening was "an important milestone" in attracting people into the health science professions.

The students, who have been attending the centre since January, are now preparing to start practical training in the hospital's wards.
