A date has been set for the reopening of a revamped Derbyshire town centre car park.

The car park in Heanor Market Place has been closed as part of a £17.8m regeneration of the town.

Amber Valley Borough Council said the car park had appeared "finished for some time" but delayed its opening until all pavement access was restored.

It will open again on 15 April, which the authority said was one month behind schedule.

It said other factors, including the need for "significant upgrades" to the drainage system which was discovered upon excavation, also contributed to the delay.

As well as overhauling the car park, the regeneration work is designed to create an outdoor space that attracts people to the town centre.

"We acknowledge the inconvenience caused by the ongoing work in the town centre," the council said.

"We know how disruptive this has been.

"However, we remain optimistic about the transformative impact it will have on Heanor."
