Tavistock removing more than 50 'repetitive' road signs

More than 50 redundant road signs will be removed from a town centre in Devon.

The signs will be removed in a bid to "de-clutter" Tavistock, Devon County Council said.

The authority said 94% of people who responded to a consultation on traffic management plans for the area welcomed proposals to reduce the number of signs.

County councillor Debo Sellis said the change would see repetition of signs reduced.

Ms Sellis said: "We want to make the most of the town's World Heritage Site status and this will start with the removal of signs to de-clutter the town centre."

She said there were five different signs within about 600ft (180m) which indicated a roundabout and there were two signs which said there was a school.

The consultation was held in October and covered other traffic issues and parking.
