Dog dies following Dorset cliff plunge

A dog has died and another was discovered covered in blood after they tumbled over coastal cliffs in two separate incidents in Dorset.

Walkers discovered a brown dog covered in blood at Ringstead Bay, about five miles (8km) east of Weymouth, shortly after 1700 GMT on Friday.

Minutes later a pointer went over the cliff at Durdle Door, about four miles (6.4km) further east along the coast.

Coastguards said the animal had died by the time they arrived at the scene.

The owner of the injured brown dog was traced to a nearby caravan park.

Coastguards have repeated warnings to dog owners to keep their pets on leads when walking on cliffs.
