Police have made an arrest after woman was raped in an alleyway near a beach.

Officers received a report on Sunday night raising concern for the welfare of a woman in the Park District area of Weymouth.

The woman, aged in her 20s, said she had been raped by a man in an alleyway off Stanley Street and Queen Street between about 21:15 and 21:30 GMT.

A 61-year-old man from Weymouth has been arrested on suspicion of rape, Dorset Police said.

A cordon was put in place and detectives carried out a examination of the scene.

The force said the victim was being supported.

Det Ch Insp Neil Third said: "We are continuing to appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and saw or heard anything suspicious to please contact us."

People with home CCTV or dashcam footage are being urged to come forward.
