A man whose disappearance more than three weeks ago prompted a major police search has been found alive.

Neil Allen, 41, from Wimborne in Dorset, had been due to meet friends on 13 February but never turned up.

Dorset Police said "extensive" inquiries were carried out to find him, including house-to-house visits with support from search and rescue volunteers.

Ch Insp David Parr said he was found by officers on Thursday.

"I want to take this opportunity to thank all those members of the public, as well as trained volunteers, who assisted in our search efforts and provided valuable information," he said.

"We are immensely grateful for your support."
