A food and drink festival has been cancelled as a result of Storm Nelson.

Parts of the UK were battered on Thursday with hail, thunder and lightning causing disruption.

Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens, near Weymouth, was due to host Dorset Food and Drink Fair on Saturday but floods have left its car park inaccessible. Tickets will now be refunded.

Some stall holders have been accommodated by Poundbury Easter Market which is due to take place on Sunday.

Organisers said the Abbotsbury event had been cancelled "due to ongoing rain, rendering the car park inaccessible for our visitors on Saturday".

"Please know that we share in your disappointment and are truly sorry that our first event of the season will not be going ahead as planned," a spokesperson said.

"We are exploring options to reschedule the food fair and will keep you informed of any updates as they arise."

A number of roads were closed across Dorset on Thursday as a result of flooding and fallen trees, with nine flood warnings still in place.
