Cirencester Brewery car park petition to be handed in

A petition signed by thousands of people opposing new charges in a car park in Gloucestershire is due to be handed in later.

Cotswold District Council wants to introduce Sunday and night-time charges to Cirencester's Brewery car park.

Council plans for charges elsewhere in the town and in Tetbury and Moreton-in-Marsh have already been dropped.

Campaigners say they still cannot understand why the Brewery charges are still on the agenda.

They believe traders will lose business as drivers take their business elsewhere.

Just under 3,000 people have signed the petition so far.

The local authority had wanted to charge £1.50 in Cirencester, Tetbury, Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold and Moreton-in-Marsh.

But last month the proposals were dropped for all but Cirencester's Brewery car park.
