Gloucestershire council to spend extra £1m on potholes

Gloucestershire County Council has set aside an extra £1m to repair potholes caused by one of the wettest winters on record.

Last winter's snowfall, followed by a hot dry spring and severe flooding, has damaged parts of the county's road network.

Highways teams are out daily tackling Gloucestershire's 3,300-mile road network.

The money will be spent on the worst defects and landslip areas.

Since last April workers have repaired 34,681 potholes in Gloucestershire, but the number of areas needing repairs is greater than normal.

Teams are aiming to repair every pothole reported within five days.

In the meantime drivers are being urged to take caution when driving and report any potholes they see.
