A man found dead in a park with a stab wound to the chest has been identified by police.

Detectives investigating the murder in Basingstoke named the victim as Jason Williams, aged 41.

Mr Williams, of St Peter's Road, South Ham, was found in Russell Howard Park shortly before 01:00 GMT on Tuesday.

Hampshire police appealed for information from anyone who was in the area in the early hours. The force said disruption in the area was likely.

Det Ch Insp Dave Storey said: "This is a large-scale investigation and we are working hard to try and find out who is responsible for this serious crime.

"I am appealing for anyone who saw or heard anything at the time or has any information which may help my investigation, to get in touch."
