Four Southampton roads have been closed after a man was seen firing a weapon.

Officers were called to Middle Road, Sholing, at 13:30 BST on Friday after reports a man had shot at another man.

Police said they then both got into separate vehicles and drove away, and it was believed the men knew each other.

Road closures are expected to remain in place on Middle Road, Deacon Road, Spring Road and Heath Road while police investigate.

Hampshire Constabulary said no injuries were reported at the time.

There would be an increased police presence in the area on Friday evening and officers would carry out house-to-house inquiries, the force added.

Nearby Oasis Academy Sholing said it did not go into a formal lockdown but that the site was quickly secured.

Principal, Martin Brown, said: "We worked closely with the police and all students and staff were quickly made safe."
