A city centre Christmas market this year includes what has been described as the UK's tallest Ferris wheel.

Organisers S&D Leisure stepped in to save the Above Bar Street market in 2022, after a last minute cancellation.

Now the company has returned to host the market, running between 16 November and 2 January, and will be offering "breath-taking" views of the city.

The market also features the ride Atmos-fear, a light projection show and more than 30 chalet shops.

S&D Leisure Managing Director Stanley Reeves said: "After the short notice of last year, this year we have been able to plan lots of extra attractions and entertainment to bring even more sparkle to Southampton.

"There will be lots to see and celebrate this season. We are looking forward to welcoming residents and visitors to our spectacular market this year."

Alongside the Ferris wheel, Atmos-fear will take people 80ft into the sky, while spinning them around 360 degrees.

The market will also have a number of family fairground rides, independent food stalls, a Christmas fun house, Santa's workshop and the festive light projection show will light up the Bargate until 24 December.

There will also be a number of free family-friendly events across the city organised by GO! Southampton.

Council leader Satvir Kaur said: "It's that time of year again, and we're excited to announce all the exciting plans being prepared for Christmas this year.

"We know that Southampton is a top destination for both local residents and visitors alike, attracting tens of thousands to our city during the festive period, contributing considerably to our local economy."
