Andover: Arson charges over terraced house fire

Neighbours had to leave their homes after the fire broke out in the mid-terraced house in Spring Mews

A man has been charged with arson after a fire at a terraced house spread to three connecting properties.

The fire on the ground and first-floor of the home in Spring Mews, Andover, started on Tuesday, at about 22:00 GMT.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation and neighbours had to leave their homes after the fire spread.

A 32-year-old man had been charged with arson with intent to endanger life and arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said the man from Spring Mews was due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

A snake found at the mid-terraced home was rescued by firefighters and taken to a local vet

All affected residents were led to safety from their homes by fire crews. The fire was put out shortly before midnight.

Fire investigation officers are working to establish the cause of the blaze.
