Police are appealing for information after a "burning" substance was thrown at a woman in a pub.

The 52-year-old was walking through The Golden Lion in Basingstoke between 21:30 and 22:00 GMT on Saturday when the substance was thrown at her.

She was left with blisters and had to have most of her hair cut off due to matting, the force said.

Two men aged 48 and 53 were arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent.

Both men, from Basingstoke, have been released on bail until 10 May.

Work is ongoing to establish what the substance was but it was not thought to be acid - although it did cause a "burning sensation", according to Hampshire Constabulary.

The woman, who was wearing a leopard print top, did not require hospital treatment but was left "extremely distressed".

Police are asking any witnesses to contact them.
