Shoplifting: Southampton city centre police patrols tackle offending

A new policing unit has been set up to help tackle shoplifting and anti-social behaviour.

The unit, which patrols the Bargate area in Southampton, launched in November.

It comes after an increase in offences, from 679 in 2021 to 1,166 in 2023, according to figures from Hampshire Constabulary.

The BBC had special access to the team on patrol and see what they deal with on a daily basis.
