Further repairs to a sewer pipe under a main road into a city centre are set to last four weeks.

The work to re-line the sewer will shut a lane southbound on the A2030 Eastern Road in Portsmouth.

It has been brought forward to start on Sunday at 19:00 BST after the pipe burst again and flooded the road.

Southern Water said the closure would be lifted on 5 June when the commemorations of D-Day 80 take place in Portsmouth.

The path along the road will also shut during the work on the east side of Eastern Road from the roundabout to Airport Service Road.

Temporary lights for pedestrians will be in place at the Airport Service Road junction so people can cross ahead of the path closure.

The water firm said re-lining the sewer pipes "aims to stop recurring issues with the underground pipe, which have led to temporary road closures in the past".

It said re-lining takes less time than a normal repair and needs less digging as the liner is fed through the underground pipe.

When finished, more than 1,000m of sewer pipe would have been relined from Farlington roundabout to beyond Anchorage Road.
