Kidderminster carpet museum opening date announced

Campaigners have announced a date for the opening of a museum to showcase a Worcestershire town's contribution to the carpet industry.

The museum is to be formally opened in the former Stour Vale Mill, Kidderminster on 19 October.

The Carpet Museum Trust was given £1.7m of lottery funding to set it up.

Richard Pugh-Cook, from the trust, said: "It's been a long, hard road with a lot of help from a lot of people and 30 years of planning."

A working power loom with galleries displaying the industry's development will be the main attractions, he added.

The mill, put up in 1855, was originally built as a carpet factory.

Mr Pugh-Cook said the trust hoped the museum would attract a wide range of people and it would be open to the public from 20 October.
