Hereford County Hospital fire safety measures 'inadequate'

Fire safety measures at Hereford County Hospital are inadequate, according to Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.

An inspection last month found problems which mean there is a danger of fire spreading at the building.

The service said an enforcement notice had been served on Mercia Healthcare and Wye Valley NHS Trust and changes must be made by June next year.

Temporary control measures have been put in place, the service said.

Derek Smith, interim chief executive of the Wye Valley NHS Trust, said: "We were doing some work on the hospital building which found some parts don't appear to be meeting the current fire regulations.

"Modern fire safety standards are very high and Mercia Healthcare will be carrying out the work as soon as possible."
