Consultation starts on A160 Immingham upgrade plans

A public consultation over plans to upgrade a major road in North East Lincolnshire into a dual carriageway has started.

The Highways Agency is proposing the £89m upgrade of the A160 in Immingham in a bid to "reduce congestion".

About 13,000 vehicles use the road every day and nearly half of these are lorries, the agency said.

It said improvements to the road were vital with the number of vehicles predicted to almost double by 2030.

Graham Dakin, project manager at the Highways Agency, said: "This consultation is an opportunity for road users, residents, local businesses and other organisations to tell us what they think and influence the design further as we progress towards the start of construction work."

He said the amount of traffic on the A160 was resulting in "severe congestion at times".

The plans are on show at a number of community centres and libraries across North and North East Lincolnshire and the public have until 20 May to give their views.

The agency said responses from the public consultation would be included in its application for a development consent order, which would be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate next year.
