Five people have died in a crash involving a car and a lorry.

The five were travelling in a Nissan Primera car on the A18 in Laceby, near Grimsby, close to the Laceby Manor Golf Course, Humberside Police said.

The road was closed in both directions following the crash at 12:30 BST.

Supt Tracy Bradley said three of the car's occupants, believed to be from the Durham area were pronounced dead at the scene. Two others died in Grimsby's Diana Princess of Wales Hospital.

The driver of the lorry is thought to have sustained minor injuries.

Three ambulances and the air ambulance were sent to the scene of the crash.

Stuart Creese, who lives near the scene of the accident, said the road was a well known blackspot with deaths there over the past 10-12 years "too numerous" to count.

Humberside Police appealed for witnesses to the crash or anyone who may have information about it to come forward.
