Siemens Hull wind turbine factory announces 140 more jobs

A further 140 job vacancies have been announced by Siemens for its wind turbine blade factory in Hull.

The company said 650 people were already employed at the Alexandra Dock site, which opened in September.

Siemens and Associated British Ports (ABP) are investing around £310m to provide manufacturing, assembly and servicing factories for the offshore wind industry.

The firm said 22,000 people had applied for jobs at the site so far.

The company said the bulk of successful applicants, 90%, had come from within a 30 mile radius of Hull.

Siemens said 10% of the workforce were women, which it claimed was double the usual number employed in large-scale engineering and manufacturing.

The 10 acre (40,000 sq m) blade factory, which is building 250ft-long (75m) rotor blades designed for 6MW turbines, is part of a 133 acre (540,000 sq m) development.

The factory is expected to be full operational next year.
