The closure is part of an ongoing upgrade expected to last several weekends

One of Hull's busiest roads will be closed due to upgrade work later - as football fans descend on the city for a Championship tie.

The A63 will close eastbound from 20:00 GMT between the Daltry Street flyover and Roger Millward Way, with the Ferensway slip road also shut.

Local diversions will be in place but traffic is expected to be "busier than usual", National Highways said.

Hull City will play Norwich City at 20:00 GMT at the MKM Stadium.

The route will reopen at 06:00 GMT on Monday.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "For away supporters travelling on the A63 eastbound towards Hull, we advise following the brown information signs for Football Matchday Parking prior to the city centre and exiting on the same route after the game."

The disruption comes after several closures of the A63 before Christmas as part of long-running works to create an underpass.

National Highways said the measures would allow it to get on with a "critical part" of the scheme.

Completing the work on weekends would "allow lanes to be kept open on the A63 eastbound and slip roads during the peak weekday, daytime travelling hours", it added.
