Work is due to start on an £800,000 scheme to improve roads in villages near Driffield.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is resurfacing and patching the road through Great Kelk, Little Kelk, and Foston on the Wolds.

Drainage work and improvements to the footpaths would also be carried out, the authority said.

Work is due to begin on Monday 22 January and is expected to take up to 14 weeks to complete.

Road closures and diversions would be in place, but access would remain for the emergency services, bin collections and postal services, a spokesperson said.

Councillor Paul West, the authority's cabinet member for environment and transport, said: "Residents in this area have been calling for this road to be improved and we are pleased we can now go ahead with these works and upgrade the road.

"We would like to thank local residents and motorists for bearing with us while we carry out these improvements."

He said the work would be carried out by the council's own highways team, with the majority of it taking place during the daytime.
