Cleethorpes: Kayaker rescued by town's lifeboat

A kayaker has been rescued after capsizing off Cleethorpes.

The RNLI said the man made an emergency call at 15:00 GMT on Friday, but his precise location was not known.

A search was launched involving the town's lifeboat, the Coastguard and nearby ships, one of which spotted the upturned kayak and guided the lifeboat to it.

The lifeboat crew found the man, who had been in the water for at least 30 minutes, holding on to his kayak.

He was given first aid while being taken to shore, where he was handed over to the Coastguard and ambulance service, the RNLI said.

Ben Carpenter, from Cleethorpes RNLI, said:, "Because the kayaker was wearing a drysuit and buoyancy aid, carrying a VHF radio and stayed with his vessel, our crew were able to locate them much more quickly and this would have contributed to a better outcome today."
