A Cleethorpes secondary school will be rebuilt to take more students after being oversubscribed for years.

Beacon Academy is the most popular school in North East Lincolnshire and the development will allow 125 extra pupils.

The local council and the Department for Education (DfE) will fund the scheme.

Head teacher Jason Thurley said it was "incredibly exciting news for everyone at Beacon".

"The new building will transform the school experience for our students and provide fantastic, state-of-the-art facilities to support their learning," Mr Thurley said.

"We can't wait for the work to get started and see our new school start to take shape."

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the new building will be constructed on part of what is the existing playing field, with some existing buildings demolished and other areas refurbished.

In the first phase of construction the new main school block will be built and pupils will remain at the existing premises.

The second half will see existing buildings demolished and the remodelling of outdoor PE areas, with two existing tower blocks and a sports hall removed.

The new building is scheduled for completion in summer 2025 and will raise the number of students from 625 to 750.
