Fresh revamp plans for Granby Street revealed

Leicester City council is unveiling the latest plans to redevelop Granby Street.

A new crossing has been opened between the road and the railway station, thanks to funding from the European Regional Development Fund.

The next stage - involving new pavements and cycle lanes - will begin in March.

The latest phase will be on display in an exhibition at Ramada Jarvis Hotel in Granby Street on Wednesday.

The council hopes the Granby Street Gateway scheme will vastly improve the approach to the city centre from the railway station, especially for cyclists and pedestrians.

The next phase of work, between Northampton Street and Rutland Street, will include a cycle link scheme connecting the inner ring road to the city centre.

Other improvements include new granite-look footways and a contraflow cycle lane along the whole length Granby Street.

Pedestrian crossings will also be improved.
