Delays warning over Granby Road project

Motorists are being warned to expect delays in Leicester city centre as the final stage of a major road improvement scheme gets under way.

The Granby Street Gateway project on the inner ring road has seen a subway closed and replaced with a crossing.

Resurfacing of the area, between St George's Way and London Road, will take place from 14-19 November.

During that time, traffic in the area will be reduced to a single lane with a contraflow system.

Bus services that use London Road and Sparkenhoe Street will also be affected, with details of changes available on the city council's website.

Traffic will return to normal after 19 November, and the scheme is due to be "substantially completed" by the end of the month.

Abdul Osman, the council's cabinet member for regeneration and transport, said: "For the six days during which the contraflow is in place, I'd ask drivers just to be mindful that delays are likely at peak times, and to either allow extra time for their journeys or use a different route for their daily commute.

"We are working to ensure that the transformation will be largely complete before the busy Christmas shopping period begins."
