Lubbesthorpe housing second consultation extended

The planning application is now unlikely to be determined before September, officials said

A consultation over a housing development in Leicestershire has been extended.

A consortium of developers first put forward plans to build 4,250 homes in Lubbesthorpe in 2010.

Blaby District Council held an initial consultation in 2011 and in May it began a second one, which has been extended by three weeks, until 25 July.

The proposals have provoked strong opposition from some nearby residents who say it will ruin the area.

The land proposed for development is off Beggars Lane and borders Leicester Forest East, Enderby and Braunstone Town.

The six week consultation was due to end on 4 July but the district council said parish councils and residents asked for more time to respond.

It added the Highways Agency - who are responsible for the M1 and other access roads around the proposed site - have also requested more information from the developers.
