Uganda's exiles: A new life in Leicester
- Published
In October 1972, thousands of Ugandan Asians arrived in the UK to start a new life after being expelled from the country by Idi Amin.
Among those given 90 days to leave their homeland was Pravin Majithia, who was 19 when he fled the eastern district of Soroti.
Like many, he and his family chose to settle in Leicester - drawn there by the city's existing Asian community - and later built up a successful business running petrol stations.
Forty years on, Mr Majithia remembers General Amin's announcement, and flying to Stansted Airport to start a new life in the East Midlands.
You can hear more stories from Uganda's Asian exiles on BBC Radio Leicester between 8 and 14 October.
