Four people have been hurt in a five-vehicle crash involving a lorry, a van and cars on the M1 in Leicestershire.

Emergency services were called at about 08:30 BST to the southbound side between junctions 23 and 22, near the exit slip road for Markfield.

Police said the people were taken to hospital for injuries not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

National Highways said the section of the motorway was initially closed causing delays of up to six miles.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 22 and 23 was also closed to allow the air ambulance to land.

Leicestershire Police said no-one was airlifted, and the motorway has since reopened in both directions.
