Kane Brookes was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 13 years

A man has been jailed for life for stabbing a woman multiple times in the head, neck, chest and back.

Kane Brookes, 25, had admitted attempted murder over the attack that took place at an address in Blaby, Leicestershire, in March.

The victim, in her 20s, was taken to hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.

As Brookes was handed a minimum 13-year term at Leicester Crown Court, the woman said: "I live in fear every day."

An 18-year-old man was also stabbed in the chest during the same attack in Enderby Road.

The court heard police were called to the property at about 00:30 GMT on 15 March by paramedics who were at the scene.

Brookes had fled, the court was told, but officers managed to find him nearby.

A police dog located the knife, which had been disposed of in a bin.

'Horrific and extremely distressing'

In a victim impact statement read out to the court, the woman said: "I do not feel safe any more. I get nightmares and repetitive flashbacks.

"I remember everything that happened like it was yesterday and I can't escape it.

"I disassociate regularly and think about the endless possibilities as to why this happened to me."

Brookes, of Feildingway, Lutterworth, had previously pleaded guilty to attempted murder, as well as the unlawful wounding of the second victim.

Det Con Mike Sime, from Leicestershire Police, said: "This was a horrific and extremely distressing incident in which a young woman and man both suffered horrendous injuries.

"The fear and pain they both must have felt on that night is unimaginable and I am in awe at the courage they have shown since to ensure Brookes was brought before the courts and faced responsibility for his actions."
