A police dog cut his paw on a discarded machete while searching for a suspect.
Leicestershire Police said the injury happened last week when Cato and his handler were deployed to a serious assault in Leicester.
The keen hound located the weapon but in his eagerness to tell others, cut his pad on the blade.
The force's dogs section said the wound required a number of stitches and he was now taking a break from work to recover at home.
