Facelift for emergency unit at Grantham Hospital

A Lincolnshire hospital is spending £40,000 to improve its "jaded" accident and emergency section, managers say.

The money, which comes from the hospital's charity fund, will pay for more treatment rooms and an improved children's play area.

The area at Grantham Hospital is looking "quite jaded", emergency nurse manager Paul Lewis said.

"It is the shop window for the hospital and it is important to have it refurbished," he added.

"We get frustrated when patients... get treatment in corridors, but sometimes we don't have an alternative."

The upgrade will include an expanded playroom for children and and "relatives room" where grieving families can get some support.

He said it was the first major upgrade at the A&E unit since the department was built in 1986.
